Cultivar Origin
Originated in 1888 from seeds grown from the clone F. Purpurea Latifolia x F. Quercifolia at the estate of Prince Camille de Rohan in Bohemia. In commerce around 1908.
Misc Facts
"The genus name is derived from Greek phegos (beech) or phago- (eating) component, and is the Latin name for 'beech tree'. Sylvatica means 'wild, of or from woods or forests". (#145)
