The Greggii Tulips have been developed directly from species Tulips native to Turkistan. They have a limited color range and bloom early in the season. Their foliage is spotted or striped.

FlowersThe flower color is limited to reds, yellows and whites. The chalice-shaped flowers open wide and many types have a black center. They bloom early in the season.
LeavesThe foliage has purple stripes or mottles and is very attractive before and after the plants bloom.
DimensionsThese plant reach 8"-14" tall. Space 4-5 bulbs per square foot. They multiply naturally and form small clumps.
Cultivar OriginThis group was developed from plants native to Turkistan. Being developed directly from the species plants they are called Botanical Tulips.
Author's NotesOver the years I have used many Greggii Tulips in gardens. Their ability to form small clumps and the purple coloration in the foliage makes this group very desirable. One of the first bulbs I planted was the Greggii Tulip "Red Riding Hood".
