Family: Asteraceae

Scientific Name: Ageratum houstonianum 'Blue Planet"

Common Name: Blue Planet Ageratum

Description

'Blue Planet' Ageratum (Ageratum houstonianum) is a taller Ageratum that can be used for cut flowers.

Plant TypeAnnuals, Site author's observations
Flowersborne on long stems, small 1/4-1/2" tubular flowers are in clusters forming a fluffy ball, color is blue
Dimensionsup to 24 inches or more, depending on the site
MaintenanceAs the flowers die, they need to be dead-headed, which is no easy task. Many of the cultivar's flowers are on short scapes and are hard to remove. This is one plant I don't enjoy the task of deadheading. Also may need to be staked.
Author's NotesI used this plant in my garden (summer of 2022), and it was easy to grow. It was definitely taller and more widespread than the Ageratum I was used to using.
